In keeping with the fairy tale theme, this is a magical shop. You have to drive "over the river and through the woods" to reach this store, but it is worth the effort. They have an amazing selection of tile and an experienced staff. Gabe was immensely helpful in making suggestions for two bathroom schemes. In addition to a broad range of what might be called more "traditional" tile choices porcelains, marbles, mosaics), they have a large selection of specialty tiles. Anyone restoring an historic home or Art Deco will find a treasure trove of specialty tiles here. Highly recommended.

With three small children, Fitchburg is further than I would normally ever think to go to shop from my home in Arlington, but Once Upon a Tile is absolutely worth the trip! They were incredibly helpful -- hearing not just what I was saying I wanted, but really understanding what I was trying to get at, and pointed me at some tile options that weren't what I thought I wanted by ended up being perfect. When the time came to pick up the tile, they were very helpful in loading it into my car (I was very pregnant one time and couldn't lift but even when I came to pick up when I wasn't pregnant they were super helpful). We've ordered tile for two bathrooms, and love the results -- when we redo our kitchen in a few years I know we'll get our tile here! My parents have also loved Once Upon a Tile (we originally found this store when my parents were redoing *their* kitchen several years ago). My parents decided they wanted the same bathroom floor tile we had chosen -- they had gone out to Fitchburg from Dorchester to pick it out, but then lost the paper they'd written it down on. I was able to call and they were able to look up my order and get the information so my parents could order without schlepping all the way out there again -- a huge help!!
We had them install a tile backsplash in our newly renovated kitchen a few years ago. After reading some negative reviews, I can only say our experience was great! Their attention to every detail was impressive and I wouldn't hesitate to use them again! The installation came out perfectly and they had a better selection of tile after we spent way too much time trying to find the right color between HD and Lowes who tend to buy in big common lots with less to choose from!
